Privacy Policy
In plain terms: This site is built to be anonymous. There are no accounts, no logins, and we never ask for your name or email. We only store what you choose to type into a letter (and an optional signature), plus an anonymous rating if you tap the feedback buttons. Please do not put your name, anyone else's name, or other identifying details into a letter, because letters may be published for anyone to read.
This Privacy Policy explains how HPVentures ("HPVentures," "we," "us," or "our") handles information in connection with the Reasons to Keep Building website and its features (the "Service"). It is part of, and incorporates, our Terms of Use. By using the Service, you agree to this Policy.
The Service provides general peer encouragement only. It is not professional, medical, mental-health, business, financial, investment, tax, or legal advice. See the Terms of Use for the full disclaimers.
1. Our approach: as little as possible
The Service is designed to collect as little information as we can. We do not require registration, we do not build user profiles, and we do not use advertising trackers. Most people can read letters without providing any personal information at all.
2. Information we collect
2.1 Information you choose to provide
- Letters you submit. When you write a letter, we store the text you enter, the topic you select, and the optional "signature" line you add. Whatever you type may be reviewed and, if approved, published for others to read. Please do not include your name, contact information, or any detail that could identify you or anyone else.
- Feedback. If you tap a feedback button after reading a letter, we store an anonymous rating and a reference to that letter. This is not linked to your identity.
- Messages you send us. If you email us (for example, to request removal of a letter), we receive whatever you include in that message, such as your email address and the details you provide.
2.2 Information collected automatically
Like almost all websites, our hosting providers automatically generate technical logs when you visit. These may include your IP address, browser and device type, referring page, and the date and time of requests. We use this limited data to operate, secure, and troubleshoot the Service and to prevent abuse. We do not use it to identify you personally, and we do not combine it with your letters.
2.3 Cookies and analytics
We do not set our own advertising or tracking cookies, and we do not run third-party advertising analytics. Our hosting and security providers may use strictly necessary cookies or similar technologies to deliver and protect the site. The Service loads web fonts from Google Fonts; when it does, Google may receive your IP address as part of serving those font files. See Google's privacy practices at policies.google.com/privacy.
3. How we use information
- To operate the Service, including displaying letters and recording anonymous feedback.
- To review, moderate, and (where appropriate) publish submitted letters.
- To maintain security, prevent fraud and abuse, and keep the Service running reliably.
- To respond to your messages and honor removal requests.
- To comply with law and enforce our Terms of Use.
4. How we share information
We do not sell your personal information, and we do not share it for cross-context behavioral advertising. We share information only as follows:
- Service providers. We use trusted vendors to host and run the Service, including Neon (database), Railway (application hosting), Vercel (website hosting), and Google Fonts (fonts). They process information only to provide their services to us.
- Published letters. Approved letters, including their optional signature line, are shown publicly on the Service by design.
- Legal and safety. We may disclose information if we believe in good faith that it is required by law or legal process, or reasonably necessary to protect the rights, property, or safety of any person or the public. (Because the Service is anonymous, we typically hold little or no information that could identify a person.)
- Business transfers. If HPVentures is involved in a merger, acquisition, or sale of assets, information may be transferred as part of that transaction, subject to this Policy.
5. Data retention
Letters and anonymous feedback may be retained for as long as the Service operates, since published letters are meant to remain available on the wall. Automatically generated logs are retained by our providers for their standard periods and then deleted or anonymized. You may ask us to remove a specific published letter (see below).
6. Your choices and rights
Because we collect so little and store it anonymously, we usually cannot connect the information we hold to a particular person, which can limit our ability to act on identity-based requests. Where we can, we will honor applicable rights.
- Letter removal. To ask us to take down a specific published letter, email us and describe or quote it so we can locate it. We will remove it where we reasonably can.
- Do not include personal data. The most effective privacy control is to avoid typing personal or identifying information into a letter in the first place.
- Regional rights. Depending on where you live (for example, under the EU/UK GDPR or the California Consumer Privacy Act), you may have rights to access, correct, delete, or restrict the processing of personal information, and to be free from discrimination for exercising them. To the extent these apply and we hold information that identifies you, contact us and we will respond as required by law. We do not sell or "share" personal information as those terms are defined under California law.
7. Children's privacy
The Service is not directed to children under 13, and you must be at least 18 to submit a letter. We do not knowingly collect personal information from children under 13. If you believe a child has provided us information, please contact us and we will delete it.
8. International visitors
The Service is operated from, and its data is processed and stored in, the United States. If you access the Service from outside the United States, you understand that your information will be processed in the United States, where data-protection laws may differ from those in your country.
9. Security
We use reasonable technical and organizational measures to protect the information we hold. No website or method of transmission is completely secure, however, and we cannot guarantee absolute security. Please keep this in mind, and again, do not include sensitive personal information in a letter.
10. Changes to this Policy
We may update this Policy from time to time. The "Last updated" date above shows when it last changed. Material changes will be posted on this page, and your continued use of the Service after they take effect means you accept the updated Policy.
11. Contact
